All-Star Player Selection Policy
1. What is an All-Star?
- A child that has proven to be one of the top players in his/her age group.
- Proven either by his record in their current season or in tryouts for All-Star or a combination of all.
- Has shown good sportsmanship among teammates and opponents.
- Has shown respect to coaches and umpires.
- Is coachable and cooperative.
- The player would be an exceptional representative of Midway Park and contribute to the success of the appropriate age group.
- The player's summer schedule must allow for extensive summer baseball and commitment to his team.
2010 All-star tryouts will be held toward the end of the season in April, so check back for more information. If more tryouts are deemed necessary by the head coach then field space will be made available.
3. The tryout format will be left open to the chosen head coach. All tryouts must be held at Midway Park with notice given to the All-Star Committee.
4. An objective selection process must be used or head coach will be removed from his duties. The final All-Star roster must be reviewed by the All-Star Committee before any team is approved.
5. Who will choose the team?
The head coach will select his All-Star team.
6. Who will pick the assistant coaches for the All-Star team?
The head coach will pick his assistants.
7. How will players be selected for the tryout process?
All coaches in each age group will be given the right to nominate kids from his/her team to be involved in the tryout process. If a player feels they have been unfairly left off of a nomination list they are welcome to attend tryouts.
8. What if a player has uncontrollable circumstances that prevents him/her from attending the scheduled tryout?
The head coach will make arrangements for this player to be evaluated. Only one scheduled make up date will be provided.
9. What if there is enough interest in forming two all-star teams in a age group?
The Board will consider more than one team on a case by case basis, but only in age groups 7 and older. If the talent level justifies a second team that can be competitive, it will be considered, but interested participants alone does not warrant an additional team. Careful consideration will be given, but no age group is ever guaranteed more than one team.
